What Are Diesel Engines

A diesel engine is a heat engine that uses diesel fuel to convert chemical energy into mechanical energy. Diesel engines ignition are different from gasoline engines, and the mixture in the cylinder of  diesel engines are compressurized, not ignited. Gasoline engines generally inject gasoline into the intake pipe and mix it with air to become a combustible mixture and then enter the cylinder and combustion and expansion through spark plug ignition.

  • The diesel engine is generally injected directly into the engine cylinder by the injection pump and the fuel injection nozzle, and the compressed air in the cylinder is evenly mixed, spontaneously combusted at high temperature and high pressure, and pushes the piston to do work.
  • The economic performance of the diesel engine is good, and it can produce greater torque under the same displacement. However, compared with the gasoline engine, the volume is large, the working noise is large, and the manufacturing cost is higher than the gasoline engine, it is not easy to maintain, it is more difficult to start cold in winter, and the emission of carbon soot and particles is more.

Airframe set

  • The airframe set is mainly composed of a cylinder block, cylinder liner, cylinder head and cylinder gasket and other components. As the assembly base of each engine mechanism and each system, it is the skeleton that supports and fixes the crank connecting rod mechanism and other devices, and the relevant parts of the truck chassis constitute the frame of the truck.

Crank link mechanism

  • The crank link mechanism mainly includes pistons, connecting rods, crankshafts, flywheels and so on. The engine has a total of four strokes intake, compression, work and exhaust, in the work stroke, the crank link mechanism will transform the reciprocating movement of the piston into the rotational movement of the crankshaft, and output power to the outside, while in the other three strokes, due to inertia, the rotational movement of the crankshaft is transformed into the reciprocating linear movement of the piston. In general, the crank link mechanism is the mechanism by which the engine generates and transmits power. Through it, the thermal energy emitted after the fuel is burned is converted into mechanical energy.
  • Gas distribution mechanism and intake and exhaust system
  • The air distribution mechanism and intake and exhaust system mainly include intake valves, exhaust valves, stalks, pushers, rocker arms, camshafts and camshaft timing gears (driven by crankshaft timing gears). It enables combustible mixed gas to be filled into the cylinder in time and exhaust from the cylinder in time.

Supply system and governor

  • The supply system and governor mainly include fuel tanks, sedimentation cups, diesel filters, oil pumps, injection pumps and governors. Timed, quantitative and constant pressure will spray clean diesel into the combustion chamber in a mist, and according to the load of diesel engines, the oil supply will be automatically adjusted to ensure the most economical and stable operation of the engine.

Starting equipment

  • The starting equipment consists of a starting motor and its clutch mechanism, flywheel gear ring, starting switch, battery, etc. In order to make the stationary engine enter the working state, it is necessary to first rotate the engine crankshaft with external force, so that the piston begins to move up and down, and the combustible mixture is sucked into the cylinder, and then the subsequent work cycle is entered in turn. The external force system relied on is the starting system.

Starting equipment

  • The cooling system includes the cooling water jacket, pump, thermostat, fan, radiator, water temperature gauge, etc. of the cylinder block and cylinder head. Its role is to dissipate the heat of the heated parts into the air, delay the decline in the strength and hardness of the parts to cause deformation and damage, maintain the appropriate fit gap of the parts that cooperate with each other, avoid the lubricating oil from deteriorating by high temperatures, and ensure the normal work of the diesel engine.

Starting equipment

  • The lubrication system mainly includes oil pumps, pressure limiting valves, oil filters, lubricating oil channels, etc. It supplies lubricating oil to components that move relative to reduce frictional resistance between them and reduce wear on the components.
